Here is an ok way to do it but I just don't like how there are small numbers in each division. I think 5 classes would be better.

That looks like 8 divisions to me. How can you call yourself a state champion in a division like that when there is only 30 or so teams in your division? I agree with you on that point (5 divisions), I think that is the best solution. Based on our number of schools and size of the state of Virginia compared with Tennessee, we should have 5 if not 6 (like it currently happens to be in football) divisions. Tennessee has 5 divisions and has less schools, students and landmass than Virginia. Going to a 4 division system to be would be a mistake.

I like Husker's system. It is very nice. And yes GC is touchy about the AA thing. They go crazy if you say they are AA. We have smaller numbers, blah, blah, blah. I know that you should be AA. You say they wanted to go to AA but VHSL wouldn't let them. Well why not? Grundy is and they have smaller numbers. In my opinion, I think the coaches didn't want to go to AA so they said VHSL wouldn't let them. They wanted to stay A for some odd reason. SO, i will keep complaining about GC killing small teams because they are AA. GC is able to put new people in for different kinds of defense they run. Places like Clintwood and Haysi and Honaker have 8-9 people that start on offense and defense. They are in shape but doing that much takes alot out of a person.

This will be my last post on this topic. It is obvious some are oblivious to factual information provided and want to remain that way so that they can have an excuse when the clock hits 00:00.
GC (as you put it, lumping a whole town/team/school into it) is not touchy about being single A, it is people like you who are touchy...wait...whiners is more like it. If GC had a football program like Grayson County and 600+ students in grades 10-12, nothing would ever be said about it.
Again, Gate City's decision makers requested to play Group AA ball for many years while sporting Single A numbers. The determination was made to cease petitioning the VHSL and play in the Division/Group that the VHSL had placed them into in the first place.
You say you know they (GC) should be Group AA? What do you base that on? You obviously are ignorant to the facts regarding GC and the VHSL. If you believe you know so much and that GC lies about numbers, maybe you should take it up with your school board or contact the VHSL yourself. I'm not being touchy, it's just idiots like yourself who get on internet message boards proclaiming you know so much about a situation that you obviously don't. If I were to say that I know for a fact that your parents are actually brother and sister and really continue to press the issue, you think you would not be offended? That's what I thought.
I never said that GC wanted to go Group AA and the VHSL would not let them. You obviously can not read in a coherent manner. I stated that GC has been petitioning the VHSL to "play up" for many years. The VHSL granted that request. GC's/School Board decision makers decided to cease petitioning, thus dropping GC into Single A status where VHSL enrollment numbers had them listed to be for the past 10-15 years.
Again, I explained that both Grundy and Graham continue to petition to compete in Group AA. They could drop down to Single A just as GC has done if their powers that be decide to. Look at Stormy_Waters link (click on it, just don't look at it) and see where the schools in red are listed as those who are "likely to play up". That is the schools that have or will be petitioning to remain where they are, even though they could play in a lower division. Is it really that hard to understand?
Keep on whining on here about GC, you won't get my ear. By the way, GC has 43 kids out this year. I wonder how many Honaker will field? Looks to me as if it was about the same number last year when the two met.
GC's football program has been strong for many years, it didn't just come about overnight magically when they finally stopped petitioning to play up in Group AA. Those kids work hard year round to be in the shape they are. That is a GC tradition (hard work). They also have discipline, something that one of the Haysi coaches that I know told me that their kids did not have after the 2001 playoff game in Haysi.
Have fun, slander away and good luck to Honaker when they face that SWVA powerhouse Twin Springs on October 17th.
This is my last post (and I know you will be glad) as it seems as if you don't agree with GC bashing and rumors about their program/school, you are in the wrong. I attempted to help clear the air and gave factual information and insight but it seems to me as if I might have as well been pi**ing in the wind for that matter. I just hope Dunduin and Husker_Fan are of the younger set, as maybe they might be able to rebound in the intelligence department before they move their tassle to the other side of their mortarboard and enter the real world.

I-Catching if you think no one complained about PV's numbers back then your dead wrong lol I have friends and family who played back then and PV was the most hated school around. They were good but they also "cut corners" as Husker put it to stay A. I still listen to old players cuss about em

I wouldn't necessarily call it complaining. From reading your posts from last season I'd say it's more like crying. Someone said Honaker doesn't stand a chance against bigger schools, they've won a state championship recently and was the best team we faced last year (GW included). It's not that GC folks are "touchy" about one certain thing, we're "touchy" because people would rather cry about losing instead of hitting the weight room and practice field to make themselves and their team better. I wouldn't call it touchy at all, because since the drop to Group A we've heard everything imaginable. And after a couple of years, it's hysterical as well as pathetic.

I COULDNT HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF. YOU ARE ONLY STATING THE FACTS. THE BOTTOM LINE IS, IF GC HAD A LOSING RECORD EVERY YEAR, NOTHING WOULD EVER BE SAID. I'M SORRY THE COMPETITION ISNT BETTER, BECAUSE IT HURTS US COME PLAYOFF TIME. GC IS GOING THRU A GROUP ATHLETES NOW AND HAS FOR THE LAST 3-4 YEARS, THAT ARE A SPECIAL GROUP. ALL SMALL SCHOOLS GO THRU THIS PHASE. THINGS WILL EVEN OUT IN THE FUTURE. PEOPLE ON HERE NEED TO QUIT CRYING & WORK HARDER TO BECOME BETTER.
